In 1970 Martin Engelbrecht, a young architect with a grand vision, opened his first practice in a small office in Randburg. From the onset Martin quickly made a name for himself as an architect capable of delivering on a wide scope of projects. His designs for Trek Petroleum (now Engen) fostered a talent for effectively utilising small spaces. This talent transcended into the planning and construction of quick service restaurants, most notably KFC, which remains one of MEA’s most prominent clients to date. Martin’s long-standing relationship with KFC and its franchisees became testament of MEA’s ability to create lasting partnerships by effectively answering the needs of its clients. Today MEA continue to deliver on Martin’s vision through a new wave of architects and planners driven by the same passion as its founder.
MEA is a dynamic South African Architectural firm with close to 45 years’ worth of experience. MEA is built on the belief that great design can only be delivered by people with an intrinsic understanding of the needs of their clients as well as those of the end user. At MEA we work collaboratively with our clients to create buildings that work well, inside and out. Design by its nature is transformative. Whilst the starting point of all projects are goals, strategies, and expectations, these are transcended through design into a better and new reality for those who occupy these spaces. The functionality of the design should always be given the highest priority. At MEA we are committed to our clients and to setting industry standards for service and delivery. Quality permeates every activity and decision we take. We believe in delivering excellence in everything we do whilst always challenging ourselves to look for new and better ways to deliver our expertise through innovative solutions. Great thinking is meaningless if it doesn’t become reality. We have invested heavily in systems and processes to ensure that our ideas are executed to the highest standard to make great design a reality wherever we work in the world.
